America has quickly become land of the free and home of the sports addicts. I have only recently begun to realize just how much sports permeates and invades the typical American home and family. There are whole TV stations devoted to sports 24/7. There are tickers running at the bottom of our screens on various news stations with scores, stats, and the latest atheltes’ scandals. It has become increasingly disturbing to me especially when I its effects on my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Our Christian youth know more athletes names than the names of Bible characters. They know more stats and scores than Bible verses. Christian adults rush out of church on Sunday to make it home in time for the “big game”.

Athletes are glorified by millions. Isn’t God the One who is to be glorified? Athletes feats are fleeting. God’s feats are eternal. Athletes abilities and skill are from the Master of all abilities and skills, the Creator of the universe, the only One who should be worshiped and adored = God Almighty!

To God be the glory, great things He has done! So loved He the world, that He gave us His Son, Who yielded His life an atonement for (our) sin, and opened the life gate that all may come in.

Senior Saints

So you may be wondering, what is a Senior Saint? Well, it is a person who is a God-fearing Christian over the age of 55. We have several in our congregation that are often overlooked and underappreciated. We have so much to gain from these wonderful people. They have a wealth of experience and knowledge, as well as wonderful stories of life and love, tidbits of history, and snippets of sound advice. I think too often today we are in so much of a hurry that we don’t want to stop and take the time to listen to what they have to say, and I think that is a tragic mistake. I love the Senior Saints that I spend weekly time with, and they are a blessing and encouragment to me. The old adage “respect your elders” is something that should be acted upon! Take time to talk with a Senior Saint, and I guarantee, not only will you make their day, but they will make yours!

Don’t be afraid to lean!

One thing that I have come to appreciate lately is pillars. I don’t mean the kind of pillars that hold up grand buildings and art museums, rather the kind of pillars that are in our lives every day. A strong pillar in my life is my husband, and I am learning to lean on him. He wants to be there for me in every way, and for so long, I have wanted to be so independent. You know what I mean, that “I can do it myself” mentality. I am learning that by leaning on him as my pillar, my support, my encourgement, and my best friend, I can and will stand stronger and be better. So, as stated above, don’t be afraid to lean…lean on those you love and those who love you! They want to be there for you, and they want you to succeed, and if you lean, they will hold you up!
